Roth Park

Why I love it: Roth Park is a true all-season gem. With plenty of parking and paved trails, it’s accessible even with strollers or little feet. What makes this location shine is its variety—tall coniferous trees for a classic forest feel, open trail views perfect for golden hour, and a small beachy area by the water. Whether you want cozy fall vibes or a light, airy spring backdrop, Roth Park delivers.

Best for: Families with young kids, anyone wanting variety in one location

Good to know: Year-round access and bathrooms nearby in warmer months

Pittock Conservation area

Why I love it: Pittock is gorgeous in the fall. If you’ve ever seen one of my warm fall galleries, there’s a good chance it was taken here. The wide open areas let in just the right amount of light, and the colours here are spectacular once the leaves begin to turn. There's a lovely trail that winds along the water, plus small clearings perfect for playful, movement-filled shots. While the parking gates do close after fall, you can still access it by walking in from the dam or the hilltop near Vansittart Ave.

Best for: Fall photos, families who love nature

Good to know: Parking is only open from late Spring to early Fall, but the day use area is accessible on foot year-round

Sliver Trail

Why I love it: This quiet little trail is such an underrated gem. A short walk leads you to a charming boardwalk bridge, surrounded by beautiful tall grass and a pop of yellow and orange come autumn. There’s a peacefulness to this spot that really brings out natural, emotional moments—especially great if you're hoping for something a little more intimate.

Best for: Quiet, candid moments, fall colours

Good to know: Very small parking lot by the gates to Pittock but there is street parking available nearby

Burgess Park

This urban green space is perfect for families looking to stay close to town. It features well-kept gardens, a river backdrop, and mature trees. In early fall, the leaves here turn a vibrant red, making it a unique and colourful setting for your photos. There’s also a paved trail and bridges for that little extra charm.

Best for: Garden lovers, spring blooms or fall colour

Good to know: Close to coffee shops—reward yourself after!

Local Wildflower fields

Why I love them: There’s something magical about a field of wildflowers. These seasonal spots are ideal for romantic, whimsical photos with flowing dresses, barefoot toddlers, or nursing mamas soaking in golden sunlight. They’re not always consistent from year to year, but I keep my eyes out for returning blooms!

Best for: Explorers, spring to summer blooms

Good to know: These spots usually require a bit of walking or have very little parking, since they aren't regular trails.

Choosing the Right Spot for Your Family

The perfect photo location depends on your family's vibe. Do your little ones love to run and explore? You’ll want an open trail or park with fewer distractions. Prefer a cozy, quiet setting where you can slow down and connect? A tucked-away trail or forest path might be ideal.

No matter what, I’m here to help guide you based on the season, your style, and your family's needs. And don’t worry—I'll scout the light and plan ahead so your session feels easy and joyful, no matter where we go!

Bonus Tip: Let Your Outfits Match the Mood

Each location has its own energy. If you’re heading to a dense green space like Roth Park, skip bright neon or forest green outfits that might blend in too much. Rich neutrals, textures like linen or knit, and soft accessories photograph beautifully and help you pop in natural light.
